MAIN JOB PURPOSE
The role of Media Relations & External Communications Manager in the Netherlands is designed to build trust and unlock growth by positioning Unilever as the global leader in sustainable business through engagement with external stakeholders with a focus on Media.
The role will have an external facing remit (media relations, social media, issue management and external affairs), offers experience in both global communications as well as market specific communication and has a strong focus on the Dutch media/political/NGO environment.
We are looking for a media relations and external communications expert with high energy and strong bias for action who is delivery focused and brings creative energy and confidence in a dynamic and fast-paced external environment.
The ideal candidate must have proven experience (5+ years) and a strong network in media relations, broad knowledge of the Dutch political and external affairs arena, independent thinking, strong judgement, outstanding writing- & digital skills, and ability to proactively manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
The role offers the opportunity to support strengthen Unilever’s position as a sustainable and future-fit business, share Unilever successes and challenges with great amount of (public) transparency by developing external engagement strategies with creativity across relevant external audiences.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Crafting and proactive pitching of future fit content to Dutch mainstream media;
Spokesperson for Dutch media, as part of the global Media Relations-team (including publication of Unilever’s quarterly results);
Prepare external engagements for senior management (board / executive team), incl. developing briefing papers, writing speeches & keynotes, formulating key messages;
Issue management for both the Unilever corporate brand as well as individual brands;
Media monitoring and identification of new media leads;
Develop professional network with external stakeholders (incl. media, societal organisations and business partners, as well as internal network (incl. senior management / executives and experts)

KEY SKILLS REQUIRED

Confidence, drive, self starter, strong judgement, bias for action.
Keen interest in the Dutch media, political, societal- and academic landscape.
Proven networking abilities, and experienced at managing a wide range of stakeholders.
Combines business awareness with the ability to understand complex topics translating those to translate compelling stories.
Strong digital skills.
Highly organised and able to deal with multiple priorities simultaneously, as well as flexibility to adapt to changing priorities.
Experienced in change management.
Culturally sensitive and embracing diversity.
KEY EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
A 5+ years of media relations experience.
Profound knowledge of sustainability topics (Climate / Net-Zero, Nature, Circular Economy, Social welfare / livelihoods).
Consistent delivering in a fast-paced environment.
Track record of managing both corporate and brand-specific issues.
Effective juggling of multiple deliverables simultaneously.
