Position Overview:

The Business Implementation Management (BIM) function at APM Terminals is responsible for executing major capital investment (CAPEX) projects that involve building new assets, significantly expanding existing ones, or integrating acquired assets into the company’s portfolio. BIM's primary role is to oversee, govern, and support these projects from the design phase through to business handover. This ensures that the right talent, planning, and governance frameworks are in place to maximize the value and success of each project by leveraging APM Terminals’ extensive project management expertise.

This role specifically focuses on overseeing the execution of operational strategies and ensuring that processes are effectively implemented across various BIM-led projects. The position will also be involved in early-stage activities such as due diligence and business case development, ensuring that the BIM Operations team provides accurate and reliable operational input for all business cases.

As the operational expert on project-related matters, this role will act as a liaison between the Global Operations Excellence function and the BIM team, ensuring that global standards, best practices, and initiatives are seamlessly integrated into BIM projects. The Operations Implementation Lead will work closely with project and business development teams to provide comprehensive operational guidance and support throughout the project lifecycle

Key Responsibilities:

Operational Strategy and Execution:

  • Lead the development and execution of operational plans for new business cases under Growth/Investments, coordinating with Ops Design and Modelling, People Function, and other key stakeholders.
  • Develop detailed project plans, including timelines, resource allocation, and risk management strategies, to ensure successful project execution.
  • Collaborate with terminal operations leadership and external vendors to build and optimize operational frameworks, systems, and processes for new and expanding terminals.

Project Management and Support:

  • Act as the BIM operations expert, providing guidance on operations outsourcing (e.g., planning, Terminal Operating Systems) and supporting the build-up of new operational organizations and teams.
  • Support and coach operations leaders within projects, facilitating the implementation of global standards, best practices, and lean methodologies.
  • Participate in key project milestones, operational workshops, and readiness assessments to ensure projects adhere to established plans and deliver on operational excellence.

Training and Process Development:

  • Guide projects in developing comprehensive training plans, including hands-on support in creating detailed training strategies and business process manuals.
  • Facilitate best practice sharing and lessons learned within the BIM function to continuously improve operational outcomes across all projects.

Risk Management and Compliance:

  • Proactively identify and manage operational risks, ensuring health, safety, and environmental standards are integrated into all terminal design and operational processes.
  • Conduct regular reviews and assessments to ensure that all operational activities align with APM Terminals' commitment to safety and excellence.

Qualifications and Experience:

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in container terminal operations, with at least 3 years in an automated terminal environment.
  • Deep expertise in terminal operating systems and automation technologies, with a proven track record of successful project implementation.
  • Strong background in process design, lean methodologies, and performance management within a complex, multicultural environment.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage diverse teams across multiple geographies.
  • High analytical capability, with a focus on results and solution-driven approaches to complex operational challenges.
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and effectively in a remote or global team setting.
  • Proficiency in English, with strong written and verbal communication, presentation, and facilitation skills.
