Specialist Engineer - Controls

For one of our clients, a leading provider of offshore wind energy services, we are looking for a Specialist Engineer - Controls who will excel in translating business requirements into a comprehensive scope of works, ensuring the integrity of control systems, and leveraging expertise in programming PLC, SCADA, HMI, and VSD systems. This role extends to both company assets and third-party supply, where the emphasis lies on meticulous compliance with industry standards and the delivery of highly efficient, cost-effective solutions.

Tasks & responsibilities:

• Provide inputs for system design, modification, upgrade, installation, commissioning, and ongoing technical support.
• Participate in defining FAT and SAT documentation, engaging in testing activities when required.
• Collaborate with third-party manufacturers and consultancies to design, maintain, and audit Control Systems, ensuring alignment with design specifications.
• Offer second-level escalated technical support to vessel personnel.
• Contribute to safety design reviews, including Risk Assessment, HAZIDs, HAZOPs, FME(C)A, and ensure the closure of identified action items.
• Ensure adherence to the Management of Technical Change process.
• Contribute to defining best practices.
• Undertake offshore trips when necessary to validate the correct and safe operation of relevant Control Systems.
• Actively promote a positive safety attitude regarding the design and operation of Control Systems.
• Collaborate within a larger team to ensure Control Systems are designed and installed with the highest levels of safety and design integrity.
• Manage subcontractors and supplier interfaces.
• Provide technical assistance in connection with breakdowns and maintenance, offering escalated second-level technical support to relevant vessel personnel.
• Assist Vessel Superintendents in ensuring that Control Systems are maintained to relevant standards daily.
• Prepare specifications and assist with purchasing.
• Maintain files and records of control systems documentation packages, including codes, functional analysis, drawings, and manuals.
• Provide inputs and review equipment FMFAs.
• Stay updated on changes in rules and regulations.
• Develop and maintain relationships with manufacturers/suppliers of relevant equipment.
• Support projects in the interface between vessel systems and project systems.
• Perform any other duties as directed by the Manager Technical Support Engineering.
• Ensure department ways of working are embedded and understood.
• Occasionally support company initiatives.

• Education preferred to degree level, ideally in an engineering discipline, minimum qualification of HNC.
• Additional qualification from a professional body.
• Desirable previous experience in Oil & Gas or Marine industries.
• Proficient experience in programming PLC, SCADA, HMI, and VSD systems.
• Working knowledge of sensors, actuators, and interfaces.
• Desirable familiarity with ISO9001 and IEC 61508 standards.
• Understanding of the FMECA process and its correlation to Control Systems design.
