The role

Are you ready for a challenging and innovative new job to make the difference from strategic innovation perspective? We are searching for an Investment Analyst

As an Investment Analyst you actively support the Corporate Venturing Unit in scouting, screening, evaluating of highly innovative startups and scale-ups. Therewith you will be part of a small specialized team, responsible for evaluation, selection and execution of startup investment opportunities. You will do this in close cooperation with top management, Damen Divisions and multi-disciplinary projects teams. The Corporate Venturing Unit is part of the Damen Maritime Ventures division which manages a portfolio of mature ventures. The CVU actively manages multiple startups and focusses on integrating startup innovations within the Damen group.

Within the department you will be reporting to the Head of Corporate Venturing. You are responsible for market intelligence and business research. Conduct (financial) due diligence and analyze business propositions, and company as well as team dynamics. You support in setting up investments recommendations and build investment theses together with the team.

The role requires you to have with a variety of stakeholders ranging from startup ecosystems, investor, corporates, to Universities and knowledge institutes internationally. The Investment Analyst is expected to have proper stakeholder management skills while you will be communicating on various levels within the internal as well as external organization.

Key accountabilities

Analyze and support the process that leads to strategic innovation integration, startup investments and startup growth:

  • Active researching market and technology trends;

  • Focus on scouting startups and filling the deal flow funnel;

  • Analysis of startup in terms of innovativeness, performance and market traction;

    • Perform extensive due diligence;

    • Assist in negotiations that lead to a successful investment;

    • Take lead in financial analysis and assist in legal matters;

    • Setup investment proposals;

    • Monitor/ support the growth path of the startup.

  • In addition to the above described main tasks, the Investment Analyst is actively involved in:

    • Supporting internal information and tracking systems;

    • Support in internal and external communications and event management;

    • Assist in monthly progress reports and Investment Committee approval memo’s.

Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor/Master degree in Business Economics or other relevant education linked to the field of Investment Management and Entrepreneurship.

  • 1-5 years relevant working experience

  • Affinity with the maritime industry or technical related industry in general

  • Experience with and/or network in startup ecosystems and investment sector

  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail

  • Interest in (maritime) technology and related (market) developments

  • Team player: flexible and able to work in a small team within a dynamic work environment;

  • Good verbal and written communication skills in Dutch and English;
