Your role

As a Senior Finance Project Manager, you will lead the successful execution of a multi-year program to improve the Finance landscape through a wide variety of projects. You will move project teams and the organization forward, allowing project team members to thrive in their ability to deliver change and ensure the successful implementation of the projects into the organization.

Apart from your work on finance projects, the working environment at FMO is challenging. We work in different areas like Risk, ESG, Impact, Operations, and Investment. Our projects usually have a high degree of Finance, IT, and Data Management complexity.

We value independence, self-starting, and a hands-on approach. FMO has a flexible approach and is working towards a hybrid project governance structure combining the more traditional and Agile approaches. A project manager must be able to adapt the project's set-up to the project's characteristics and the maturity of the stakeholders.

Since you will be engaging with a wide range of stakeholders, it is essential to quickly and personally navigate through the organization. When working with colleagues with various nationalities, it is crucial to be culturally sensitive. Relationship building and proactiveness are key for being successful as project manager. You work closely with senior management within the bank.

Your team

The Portfolio Management Office (PMO) team monitors, advises and reports on the performance of FMO’s portfolio of projects and aligning with the Agile domains and teams. It supports project owners and project managers in the planning and delivery of projects, addressing issues including risks and providing insights on interdependencies and synergies across projects. The PMO leads the (quarterly) selection process of new projects and enables informed decision making by the Managing Board.

FMO has an ambitious (digitalization) project portfolio agenda that requires strengthening internal project management/change capabilities. The PMO will support this by adding internal project managers to its team. This will enable project managers to build upon previous experience and knowledge of the organization, improving their effectiveness and increasing their impact on project success.

You will be part of the PMO team (10 FTE), consisting of 4 project managers 3 portfolio officers, 2 project officers and a manager. In addition, you will work in various contexts within the organization.

The PMO team is part of the Strategy department. The department includes next to the PMO team, Strategic Planning, Evaluations and Knowledge Management and Sustainability Strategy and Policy.

Your background

You are independent and a self-starting professional with a hands-on mentality and result-oriented mindset. You possess relationship capabilities, cultural sensitivity, and proactiveness which are key to success as a Project Manager. You can adapt the project's setup to its characteristics and the stakeholder's maturity of the stakeholders. You can influence and have analytical skills with attention to structure and detail.

You also have:

  • Masters/University level.

  • More than 8 years of relevant work experience as Finance/Risk Project Manager in a Financial Institution

  • Work experience as an Auditor in a Big 4 (RA / CPA is preferred), or consultancy is preferred.

  • Several years as a project manager in a Financial Institution or Insurance Company preferably with 3+ years in an Agile environment.

  • Experience as Product Owner could be advantageous.

  • Knowledge of regulatory risk.

  • Business oriented and strong affinity with IT development, data management, finance processes, architecture, design principles and change & maintenance methodologies.

  • Embodies project delivery excellence (get things organized, make people deliver, able to deliver under pressure whilst ensuring quality).

  • Ability to connect and bring together diverse stakeholder interests (internal) without having formal authority. Preferably experience in customer interaction and working in an international environment.

  • Strong command of English, both verbally and in writing.
