Senior robotics engineer

For our office in Nootdorp we are looking for a Senior Robotics Engineer. You work with a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team to implement state-of-the-art algorithms derived from world-class research. Your main objective is to contribute to the design and development of the next generation of autonomous robots for outdoor applications.

You are the ideal candidate if you have experience in applied robotics research and expertise in various robotic components and systems. Your knowledge of autonomous navigation solutions in outdoor environments will bring our autonomous fleet to the next level. Your passion about seeing robotics have a real-world, large-scale practical impact will make the difference in sectors such as the energy transition.

Your role

  • You develop, test, and optimize existing and new methods for real-time control, state estimation, mapping and planning for autonomous mobile robots in a maritime environment;

  • You design and implement innovative Robotic systems and payloads to be employed autonomously in real-world applications;

  • You develop novel algorithms to achieve robust control of unmanned systems (offshore) in the presence of external disturbances;

  • You design, plan, and conduct real-world experiments;

  • You develop practical high-performance robotic systems that can operate in extreme and challenging environments.

  • You interface with multi-disciplinary teams in order to develop per-specifications autonomous robotic systems;

  • You follow software practices that produce maintainable code, including automated testing, continuous integration, code style conformity, and code review;

  • You engage with external stakeholder(s) and sponsors regularly to disseminate results and receive end-user feedback.

Your track record

  • You hold a MSc. or PhD in Computer Science, Robotics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, or a closely related field;

  • You have a minimum of 5+ years of experience in robotic systems;

  • You have experience in ROS/ ROS2, C/C++, Python and GIT;

  • You have a strong background in filtering approaches to fuse multiple sensor data to obtain reliable state estimation and real-time control;

  • You have experience in a collaborative development environment, including paradigms such as continuous integration & delivery, design of experiments (DOEs) etc;

  • You a collaborative team player with strong communication skills, with a willingness to learn from others and contribute back to the robotics community with publications or open-source code;

  • You have strong organization and project management capabilities.

You showcase strong experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • closed-loop control and state estimation for autonomous robots;

  • Visual Inertial Odometry;

  • LIDAR/Vision-based SLAM;

  • Machine Learning for Semantic Classification;

  • Robot modelling and control;

  • Forward/inverse kinematics and dynamics;

  • Spatial transformations;

  • trajectory design and path planning.
