Since its establishment in 2004, the mission of Gender Concerns International has been to promote gender equality at a policy-making level. That includes collaborating with national authorities and institutions, as well as bridging the interaction gap between local women organisations and the national policy-makers. Building the capacity of women decision-makers for networking and training to negotiate more resources for women during parliamentary budget allocation negotiations is a way to increase women’s empowerment, and therefore is a step towards gender equality. Additionally, supporting is given to women leaders in conflict and post-conflict countries, and fragile and emerging democracies. As a four times signatory to the Dutch National Action Plan on UNSCR 1325, this organisation support women’s inclusion in decision making processes and leadership roles, thereby promoting electoral parity as a prerequisite for parity and governance.
