Are you passionate about space technology and eager to contribute to NATO's mission? The NCIA is looking for a motivated Space Engineer to join our Chief Technology Office (CTO) within the Space Technology Adoption and Resilience (STAR) team.
About the CTO:
The CTO, led by the Chief Technology Officer, serves as the Agency's Technical and Design Authority and Innovation Lead. We support all NCIA entities in delivering secure, interoperable, and cost-effective communications and information systems for NATO. Our goal is to ensure that NATO maintains its technological edge by continuously analyzing and integrating new technologies into our service catalogue and technology roadmaps. As strategic thinkers, we lead the NCIA Technology Strategy and drive digital transformation initiatives.
About the Role:
As a Space Application Engineer within the STAR team, you will play a crucial role in advancing NATO's space capabilities. You will support the implementation of the NCIA technology strategy for space, develop space domain applications, and deliver innovative solutions to the Alliance Space community. You will also assess commercial and national ICT capabilities and provide recommendations on space-related ICT strategies. Key responsibilities for this new post include:
· Leverage new ICT capabilities to support the implementation of Space as an Operational Domain.
· Develop and adapt Space Domain ICT capabilities to ensure optimal performance and integration with existing systems.
· Enhance the Space Support Request Management and Tracking tool for NATO operations, improving the exchange of Space data, products, and services within NATO and with Nations and commercial partners.
· Collaborate with military communities and internal project teams to establish and maintain Space ICT capabilities in NATO, ensuring seamless integration and operational readiness.
· Support Space education initiatives by developing material and providing briefings on Space ICT capabilities in use within NATO, fostering a deeper understanding and application of these technologies.
· Participate in and support training activities, including the integration of Space ICT capabilities into major operational and interoperability exercises, to enhance the preparedness and effectiveness of NATO forces.
· Manage the Space Prototype system Orion and the NATO Space Community of Interest Portal Rigel, providing level 0, 1, and 2 support to ensure their smooth functioning and availability.
· Deputize as Orion Service Delivery Manager when needed, ensuring continuity and reliability of service delivery.
· Develop and present technical assessments and briefings at relevant events, such as symposia, conferences, and NATO Space Working Groups, to share insights and foster collaboration.
· Support NSIP Projects by providing technical expertise and guidance, ensuring alignment with NATO's strategic objectives and technological standards.
· Provide comprehensive technical assessments of Space and Space-related NATO, national, and commercial ICT capabilities, identifying strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for improvement.
· Define plans and strategies related to Space ICT capabilities, offering technical inputs and technology advice to guide decision-making and resource allocation.
· Deliver innovative Space solutions to support the Alliance Space community, addressing emerging needs and enhancing the overall effectiveness of NATO's space operations.

About you:
You possess the ability to lead, inspire, and effectively engage a diverse and multidisciplinary team with tact, sound judgment, and adaptability. Additionally, your strong political awareness, motivational skills, and attentive listening contribute to your capabilities which include:
· Knowledge of space applications in the area of Space Domain Awareness and Space Situational Awareness, and associated products;
· At least 2 years of experience in educational activities linked to the Space Domain, including both operational and interoperability exercises;
· At least 2 years of experience in handling, analyse, and process Space data, with a focus on automation;
· At least 2 years of experience with remote troubleshooting and problem resolution in a secured network environment;
· Experience of Windows scripting and PowerShell, specifically applied to SharePoint Server administration and related APIs;
· Knowledge of MS Office applications, with focus on MS Excel;
· Experience as SharePoint Administrator;
· Knowledge of PowerShell, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, REST APIs, csv;
· Experience with cloud technologies: Azure DevOps, Azure cloud environments;
· Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server (2012/2014/2016), PostgreSQL;
· Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing, with excellent briefing skills and the ability to produce clear and concise reports and presentations.
Desirable Experience and Education:
· Technical knowledge of the Space Support Request Management and Tracking tool;
· Knowledge of NATO Space stakeholders, data, products, services;
· Work with military communities, and with internal NCIA project teams, to support establishment of the Space ICT capabilities in NATO;
· Experience with web application development;
· Experience with the Space Prototype system Orion and NATO Space Community of Interest Portal Rigel;
· Prior experience of working in an international environment comprising both military and civilian elements;
· NATO Space Courses certificate;
· Experience in NATO operational and interoperability exercises, including planning and execution;
· ITIL v3/v4 Foundation
