Your job

The IHC Training Institute (ITI) invites customers from all over the world to learn more about the building process of our ships, how to operate a dredger and many more dredge related topics.

As an Intern Event Coordinator you will join a small team consisting out of two trainers and a manager conducting trainings all around the world. At the training institute in Kinderdijk, we have four venues: a classroom, two dredge simulators that can fly across the world and a studio for online classes.

A big part of your job is planning and preparing for the standard trainings at the yard in Kinderdijk. Think about assisting course participants with hotel reservations, food & beverage during course days, classroom set up, arranging yard tours and preparing the training materials.

A week in the life of an Intern Event Coordinator:

Monday morning at the IHC Training Institute, the team gets together and we go over the trainings that just happened or will take place soon. One trainer just got back from theory trainings in Las Vegas, the other is about to go Bangkok, Thailand in three weeks with the Cutter Suction Dredger Simulator. Have we booked the flights, is the hotel confirmed and is the visa arranged? After the meeting, as a team we will pack the simulator in its flight case so the shipping department can send it to Bangkok.

Next week we have a Dutch company for in-house trainings, you will make sure that the trainers have this blocked in their calendar, that they know which clients and how many of them are coming. You are in contact with the client and participants and ensure they have received the confirmation letter with instructions to get on the yard and that food & beverage is arranged for the training and more. For all your activities you will create checklists, so we can easily tick off the tasks for the next training we will host.

After packing the simulator, you will check the ITI inbox and reply to the standard training emails, other request you will forward to the manager or to other departments. You get a call from a colleague about an internal pump training, you check the trainers’ schedules and confirm that the training can be hosted, you will then do the needed arrangements.

Tomorrow you may host an online training for clients in Australia and be present at the yard at 5:30am to support with the studio, the next day you may accompany the trainer with clients for a tour around the yard and the vessel that is on the quayside.

You will be the spider in the web at the training institute, no day is the same.

As Intern ITI Event coordinator you will work on and assist with:

  • Scheduling (open training planning, calendar management for the 2 trainers and 4 ITI venues)
  • Hospitality/Event Management (arranging sightseeing tours, yard tours, dinner and lunches, transport, accommodation for course participants)
  • ITI administration (processing evaluations, ITI printed matters, arranging travel, accommodation and visas for two ITI trainers)
  • Customer communication (providing instructions for standard trainings, managing ITI inbox and ensuring customer communication is sent to the correct departments)
  • Assist in creating checklists for above tasks
