Job Description

At Royal IHC we are looking for extension of our engineering team with a Junior Mechanical Engineer. Within IHC Smit B.V. multiple well-known IHC companies are united to be completely focused on developing, designing and building the most advanced, versatile and specialized mission equipment applicable in any of the main four markets of Royal IHC being dredging, offshore, mining and defence.
One of these companies is Services which is the most capable of dealing with customers who are considering or planning to change functionality or to increase specific performance of their existing assets. Functionalities and performances are varying to any type of mission for which the vessel originally has been designed and built. Making such changes can involve many different challenges, resulting in all kind of specific engineering activities depending on the phase of the conversion process such as:

  • Feasibility and concept studies à resulting in analysis reports, cost estimates and concept sketches.
  • Engineering from concept to detailed à resulting in 3D models, drawings, procedures and manuals.
  • On site visits à resulting in inspection and advisory reports, 3D scans for ‘asset data’ collection.

Your responsibilities

  • Creating technical concepts of equipment, installations or integrated systems.
  • Setting up and completing 3D models and 2D drawings of constructions, systems, equipment and procedures based on relevant information and specifications.
  • Creating documentation such as specifications or reports and creating drawings of any type e.g. arrangement or assembly drawings including parts lists, detailed fabrication drawings, lift plans, installation procedures and operation and maintenance manuals.
  • Setup design calculation file containing load case definitions, methods and criteria, prepare hand calculations or apply specific tools such as typical beam modeller, or Finite Element Analysis software. Implement Classification Society Regulation and/or Specific International Design Codes.
  • Communicating with your team leader, team members, other internal departments and suppliers.

Your Profile

To be eligible for the position of Engineer Life Cycle Engineering, you must have the following:

  • Bachelor or Master degree in Mechanical Engineering (or any closely related engineering study).
  • Experience with 3D and 2D CAD software
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • A proactive, creative and eager to learn attitude.
  • Excellent in communication within an international organization (main language English, understanding and speaking Dutch is an advantage).

Royal IHC offers you:

  • A gross monthly salary between € 3563 and € 4200 +8% holiday allowance (based on 40 hours a week)
  • € 0,21 per kilometre commuting allowance.

Selection process:

After your application, there will first be a short phone call with the Corporate Recruiter. Subsequently, the selection procedure consists of two rounds of interviews. The first interview will be with the manager and a direct colleague. During the second interview, a manager from a different department and someone from HR will join. If everyone is enthusiastic, a phone call follows to discuss the terms of employment.
